Annika Sorenstam was born on the 9th of October, 1970, in Stockholm, Sweden. Encouraged by her parents, Annika Sorenstam loved sport from an early age, as all her family members were playing sport. The area where Annika Sorenstam lived also helped her to develop her skills as it is situated on Sweden's eastern coast near the Baltic Sea. When Annika Sorenstam was a child, she first aimed at being a tennis woman. At the age of ten years old, Annika Sorenstam's family moved to London and stayed there for about three years. There Annika Sorenstam still had the ambition to become a professional tennis woman, and gradually improved in that sport as well as her sister. Then because, Annika Sorenstam started having strong adversaries, her love for this sport decreased.

Years later, Annika Sorenstam became interested in golf and as their Swedish house was close to the Bro-Balsta Golf Club, she started taking lessons with Henri Reis, one of Stockholm's best golf instructors. Gradually, Annika Sorenstam started dreaming of winning the U.S. Open. Annika Sorenstam became one of Nilsson's prize pupils and in 1990 she had an offer from the University of Arizona. Annika Sorenstam felt good at Arizona, as she was surrounded by some of the US best coaches. In 1991, Annika Sorenstam led the Wildcats to the NCAA championship, and accordingly earned honors as the College Player of the Year. In 1992, Annika Sorenstam raised her number of collegiate titles to seven, and also won the 1992 World Amateur Team Championship in Vancouver.

Then finally, in the summer of the same year, the famous golfer realized her childhood dream of being qualified for the U.S. Open. After finishing 24 strokes behind the champion, Patty Sheehan, Annika Sorenstam decided to start her professional career.
